Sir,
I would like to congratulate all those who took part in the Off Centre Theatre's recent production of The Rolls Revue.
It was a superb show. The dancers danced and sang their hearts out, the sketches were hilarious and the costumes and backdrops were brilliant.
A great deal of enthusiasm and hard work went into this production and it was heartening to see such an intergenerational show, with people of all ages working together and enjoying themselves.
But what does one have to do to attract an audience in Monmouth?
The publicity could not have been bettered and surely no-one in Monmouth was unaware of the production.
Monmouth is famously apathetic – one has only to read Keith Kissack's Victorian Monmouth to realise this is not a new phenomenon.
After yet another poorly attended concert by the Music Society of the time, their director wrote to the Beacon:
"Monmouth, dear Monmouth, with all thy faults I love thee still, but I would love thee even more wer't thou not so still."
Wake up Monmouth. There is a lot of talent in the town and it deserves your support. You may even enjoy the experience too.
