Students from Monmouth and Coleford Tae Kwon Do travelled to the Telford International Arena for the biggest tournament of the year, the British Tae Kwon Do Championships.

Students competing fought well but were unlucky in the medal stakes this time due to the sheer volume of British international competitors.

Instructor Tony Farr, however, came home the British champion in the destruction discipline.

• The Welsh Closed Championships were hosted by 6th dan Master Phil Burley at the Newport Centre.

Medal winners from Monmouth were Sebastien Haggett with two bronze, Matthew Chester with gold in sparring, Paul Jones with two gold, Mike Armstrong bronze and gold, Millie Walker silver, Luke Warren silver, Chloe Robins silver, Andy Noble bronze, Josh Smith gold, Kieran Hawkins bronze and Gegga Jones silver and Arron Jones bronze.

Mr Farr said he was pleased with the students' performances.
