BIG game trackers from Zimbabwe may not be totally at home in the Welsh countryside but it seems the prey they are stalking are making it very much their environment.

Anthony Holloway and Johan Bezuidenout, who normally operate with safari companies, set out to investigate the evidence of big cat sightings in Wales after reports that 11-year-old Joshua Hopkins from Trellech had been attacked by such a beast.

In XL: To catch a cat (Thursday, November 30th, BBC Two Wales, 7.30pm), director Dave Howard, who brought over the men to gauge their opinion on big cat activity, follows them looking for tracks and lairs and building a "blind" or hide to try to spot the cat's nocturnal wanderings.

They also speak to witnesses including one man who claims to have bumped an animal with his car and another whose nearby ostrich farm has seen some birds vanish.

Night vision lenses, a sinister heartbeat soundtrack, jerky camera work and a bait of animal blood adds a Blair Witch Project feel to the film, narrated by Honor Blackman.

Dave Howard is convinced that big cats could be on the prowl which could make the innocent-sounding Lion Inn at Trellech live up to its name.

"I think there is definitely something out there," says Mr Howard, "there is too much evidence to think otherwise. "
