Tintern based photographer David Hurn has been recognised by 2021 The Lucie Awards, the premiere annual event honouring the greatest achievements in photography.

The photography community the world over pays tribute to the most outstanding people in the field. Recipients normally receive their Lucie statues during a spectacular evening at the Lucie Awards in New York. This time round, however, Covid required that the event was held online. Some of David’s work in recording village life can be found on the Tintern village website tinternvillage.co.uk.World-renowned photographer David Hurn has a longstanding international reputation as one of Britain’s most influential reportage photographers. He lives in Tintern and has recorded much of what happens during his time there.David began his career in 1955 and gained an early reputation with his photographic reporting of the 1956 Hungarian uprising. He became part of the British and American social revolution of the 1960s and photographed many iconic figures from film and music, including The Beatles, Sean Connery, and Jane Fonda.In 1973, he set up the School of Documentary Photography in Newport. Since leaving in 1989, besides continuing to photograph, he has been in constant demand for lecturing and workshops around the world. In 2017, he helped to establish the first gallery at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff dedicated to photography.
