Sir,

As we are a week or so from the council elections I would like to update your readers on the current situation.

At the meeting to discuss the question of additional houses, several Conservatives expressed their concern saying they did not want any of these built in their wards but nevertheless voted the proposal through, although some of them were to be built on a flood plain.

I do not deny that the vote was perfectly legal but what was inexcusable was their action in deselecting a councillor who did not vote the way they wanted and making life unpleasant for others and closing down the Monmouth Town Branch.

They are remarkably intolerant and will take action against anyone who does not agree with them 100 per cent.

Their actions make one wonder if the time has come to end party politics in local government.
