Three men from Monmouth remain in custody as police continue their enquiry into an alleged assault.

A 43-year-old man from Poole was found unconscious at 1.15am Sunday morning, June 26 and was treated at the scene by police and paramedics.

He is still in the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he continues to receive treatment for what are described as serious injuries.

Three men – one aged 21 and two aged 19 – from the Monmouth area were arrested on suspicion of assault and are still in police custody.

It is understood that a large crowd of golfers from Bournemouth were staying at the Premier Inn Saturday night and were seen in the Green Dragon that evening. It is not known whether the victim was one of these men.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wilkie, the senior investigating officer, said:

“Our enquiries are continuing, and we’ve been able to remove the scene guard and Monnow Street has now reopened.
