A TRUST formed in memory of a medical student described as “a friend to everyone” has raised thousands in just 24 hours.

The Ted Senior Trust has been formed after the death of Ted Senior, who died of suicide on 10th February.

The trust, formed by his family, has already raised almost £7,000 just one day after it began, with donations at £6,865 at the time of the Beacon going to print.

A former head boy at Monmouth Comprehensive School, the 22-year-old medical student was studying in Swansea and was a popular face in the town, playing rugby and football in the area.

Max Senior, Ted’s younger brother, wrote on the fundraising page: “In the 22 years he lived, he had an unbelievable impact on so many people’s lives. He had a rare ability to light up any room with his wide smile, mop of blonde hair and special charm. Ted was a friend to everyone and always did his upmost to help people in need. The life and soul of every situation, Ted was someone who embodied all the right values on how to live, and will undoubtedly leave a lifelong legacy in everyone’s hearts.

“Ted achieved a huge amount in such a small space of time; he was a talented rugby player and had a great passion for all sports. More recently, he got into medical school after years of hard work and sacrifice.

“Ted was a son, a brother and a friend to many and will be sorely missed by everyone lucky enough to know him.”

In honour of Ted, it is the family’s wish to set up a foundation in his name. This will be an organic process with funds raised being invested in projects and forums aimed at preventing a reoccurrence of a similar tragedy.

Tributes have been paid to Ted, with Monmouth RFC holding a minute’s silence at their game at Chepstow RFC on 17th February.

George Morgan, player-manager at Raglan Rovers Football Club who Ted played for last season.

“He was such a high spirited human being, with such a lust for life, intelligent, confident and an incredible athlete in both football and rugby,” he wrote on social media.

“Many of us grew up with Ted and his family and friends over the years as many of us attended the same school or existed in the same social groups, and we were lucky enough to have him part of our team and it was always an incredible atmosphere when Ted was in the room.

“For all of us, this news was hard to comprehend with a person so full of courage and spirit taken away from the world where we knew him.

“We send out our deepest sympathies to Ted’s family and those who knew him best.”

Ted Senior’s funeral will take place on Friday 2nd March at St Mary’s Priory Church, Monmouth at 12pm.
