Monmouth was enlightened by the arrival of ‘The People’s Piano’ underneath the arches of Agincourt square on May 4.
Mayor of Monmouth, Cllr David Evans, cut the ribbon after delivering a heartwarming speech about the late Paul and Rick Martinez, for whom the piano now stands tribute.

The Martinez Brothers Music Foundation was set up after the death of well-known musicians Paul and Rick Martinez to inspire and create musical opportunities in their name.
The People’s Piano has been the first project and will sit under the arches of Agincourt Square available for all to play during the opening times of the Shire Hall from now until at least September.
Some of the local musicians included: Katie Pritchard, Feliks Tabis, Richie Persell, Osian Jones and more.
Susie Martinez said: “We really hoped people would just turn up and play and they are. This is what the people's piano is all about. We are so grateful for everyone's support, friendships and donations and look forward to more and more music in the town.”
They have teamed up with Rockfield studios in Monmouth to help fund their master class for young people.
Monmouth Town Council has provided a grant to the foundation to help facilitate the event and have used part of the Mayor’s civic expenses budget.
The Mayor of Monmouth Councillor David Evans said: “The people’s piano is an opportunity for anyone to come try music; music lifts the soul.”

The Martinez Brothers spent their lives working as successful musicians. Paul played with artists ranging from Cat Stevens and George Harrison, to appearing with Led Zeppelin in the 1985 Live Aid concert.
He was the bass player in Robert Plant’s band with the single ‘Big Log’ being a great success. Rick played with artists ranging from The Adverts to Hawkwind and was a successful session drummer.
