SIR, Last Monday evening I, like many others, tried to drive over the Wye Bridge just to find yet another set of roadworks, which of course resulted in what has become the usual A40 chaos. There had been no warning signs of any kind. In the past two years I wonder how many weeks the A40 and locale has been free of road works, I suspect not many. This road is already not fit for purpose for many hours of the day and when such events take place, a nightmare ensues. How many hours of work and leisure time have been lost in these numerous fiascos? Enough is enough. It is time we started to take legal action against the council and highways for not providing warnings for such events, and for not providing the town with a bypass and feeder roads fit for purpose. I am weary of the excuses given by politicians. The fact that there is no co-operation between those who can dig up these roads is a matter that should have been sorted decades ago. Knowing the rise in traffic, the A40 should have been sorted years ago. It is obvious we need more roads between artery roads and that the bypass we have does not do the job. So those that have the power and influence: stop squabbling and agree on something and do it. The Gateway to Wales is a road well past its sell-by date. The fact that the latest dig up was just done, without notice, (I expect some website had the information, which is not good enough) again shows total contempt for all of us who use this road.  A disgrace.
