The Christmas tree outside Monmouth's Oldway Centre is getting some attention, thanks to a Facebook page.

Some are hanging a bauble in memory of a loved one, some are just wanting to give the tree a little more festive spirit by 'sprucing it up' for Christmas.

Wendy Williams of Paws Pets and Sam Perry of Envee began decorating the tree and have now been followed by others.

Hilary Williams of the Beacon thinks it is a great idea as she used to put one up in memory of her husband in the Regent Arcade in Cheltenham.

Gemma Dorrington will be hanging one in memory of her grandad, born and bred in Monmouth, who passed away in February at the age of 97.

"It's such a beautiful town and we deserve a really nice Christmas tree, said Sam.

"I just walked passed it yesterday and I thought if everybody was to put a bauble on it would look very nice," added Wendy. "It is less likely to be vandalised as it is the community tree," she added.

"The town struggles with funding for something like this and we may as well contribute in some way," said Sam.

However, Santa has posted his own message to remind everyone not to attempt to climb the tree, just hang your decorations on the lower branches and Santa's secret elves will put them safely higher up the tree using only magic and fairy dust so as not to break any health and safety laws.
