SIR,
I would like, belatedly, to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks to the members of the Town Council and people from the wider community that I had the pleasure of working with during my time as Town Clerk.
My last few weeks in Monmouth were extremely busy, with the handover at the council, starting a new job and moving home, and so I apologise that I didn't have time to say all the goodbyes to colleagues and friends that I would like to have said.
Please can I say how touched I was by all the wonderful gifts, cards and kind words that I received, and in particular by the beautiful silver brooch of the Old Monnow Bridge that the council members presented me with. Also to those of you who contributed towards the picture I received. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to look at it, and of course, makes me think of you all!
Perhaps I can take this opportunity to say what an exciting year I think Monmouth will be having in 2010. There is much to look forward to and celebrate. Firstly the long anticipated re-opening of the refurbished Shire Hall this summer – what an amazing project that has been – will provide the town with a building it can be even more proud of.
Secondly, there's the centenary commemoration of the death of Charles Rolls, one of the most famous sons of Monmouth. Many events are planned to mark this occasion, and it's a fine opportunity for Monmouth to showcase itself.
As I embark upon the next chapter of my life, I can look back on my time in Monmouth with much fondness. There were certainly many challenges to overcome, both in my personal and professional life, but also opportunities. My overriding memories will be of many happy times spent among friends.
Sarah Robson
(Town Clerk, 2004-2009)
