SIR,

Greyhound Rescue Wales would like to thank the very generous people of Monmouth for their donations on 2nd June.

We collected a whopping £364 as part of our street collection in the town centre. Thank you so much to everyone that gave.

It costs our charity £6 per day to keep a greyhound at rescue kennels, so every pound is important.

Many of the people who dropped by and stroked some of our retired racers agreed that greyhounds make fantastic pets.

We believe that the end of a greyhound's racing career (around age three to four) shouldn't mean the end of their life.

Perhaps more importantly, we managed to recruit three new families who were interested in providing a home for a rescued greyhound or lurcher.

While everybody was extremely generous, the actions of one man stood out. A gentleman riding a mobility scooter passed by and apologised for not being able to donate because he didn't have any cash on him but promised to return later.

As good as his word, he returned half an hour later with a huge 15 kilo sack of dog food attached to the back of his motorised chair which he donated.

If any of your readers are considering getting a dog please visit our regularly updated website and look at some of the stunning greyhounds and lurchers that need homes.
