CHEPSTOW has celebrated 20 years of being a Fairtrade town after achieving the Fairtrade status in 2006.

To mark the occasion on 22nd October members from Chepstow Town Council and the Chepstow Fairtrade Forum raised a Fairtrade flag above the arch.

Fairtrade is a set of practices that encourages sustainability and fair prices, terms for trade and working conditions for farmers and workers in the developing world and locally.

In becoming a Fairtrade town Chepstow serves Fairtrade refreshments at council meetings and has a number of retail outlets, cafes and restaurants selling Fairtrade products.

It also has the Chepstow Fairtrade Forum, which works to raise awareness of Fairtrade in the town and gain new support, along with working with steering groups from the other towns in Monmouthshire to maintain the county’s Fairtrade status.
