Monmouthshire County Council has announced a series of temporary road closures and speed limit reductions throughout the county to allow for essential infrastructure works by BT, MJ Quinn, and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. These works are scheduled to begin in late August and continue into early September 2025. All projects are being carried out under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which permits temporary measures to ensure public safety during maintenance and utility operations.

On August 27, a section of Trellech Road in Tintern will be closed between 7:00pm and 10:30pm for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water works. The affected stretch is approximately 130 metres, starting 57 metres from the Sylvan View junction. A diversion will be in place via Whitelye Road, Catbrook Road, and the A466.

The following day, 28 August, BT will carry out works on Pwll-Y-Cath Road, Newchurch, prompting a closure between 9:30am and 3:30pm. The closure affects 80 metres of road, approximately 190 metres northeast of Coed Llifos Road. Diversions will guide drivers via Gethley Road and Ty Du Road.

From September 2 to 4, another Dŵr Cymru project will affect Church Road in Llanishen, with a 30-metre section closed at its junction with the B4293. Traffic operatives will be on-site to assist, and a short diversion via Llanishen Road will be active.

Other works include a BT closure on Dairy Farm Road, Wernheolydd, from August 26 to 29 , for 1.4km of road. Diversions are via Wernheolydd Road and Raglan Road.

Two recent speed reductions will also be enforced to support MJ Quinn works. On August 22, Crick Road in Shirenewton limits will drop from 60mph to 40mph for 1.2km, and from 40mph to 10mph for a 150-metre section. Similarly, Lower Raglan Road in Llandenny there will be a temporary speed reduction from 60mph to 40mph over 250 metres on August 21.

All roads will remain legally restricted for up to 18 months if required, though most works are expected to be completed within a few days. Access to local properties will be maintained. The Council reminds residents that violating these orders may result in prosecution under the Act.
