Success for Monmouth Tennis Ladies
Monmouth Tennis Club completed their ladies doubles matches last month. Competing in the Cymru Kitchens Summer League, 2nd division, they played nine matches and won 6 of them, only losing to Usk B, Caerphilly A and Crickhowell A and taking fourth place in the league table.
However, the tables were turned when competing in the Minor Cup event.
Carol Pell with Trish Allen and Barbara Blease with Hilary Trenear first beat Caerphilly A at home, then beat Crickhowell A at home in the semi final.
The final was played away to Usk B and a very close match resulted in another win for Monmouth Ladies by 5 sets to 4.
Presentation of the trophy will take place at the annual dinner dance to be held in the autumn.
Winners of the annual American Tournament held on Wimbledon Men's Finals Day at Chippenham Sports Ground were Maurice Pell and Phil Mars. Lunch was enjoyed at the Pavilion afterwards by all the competitors.
Dragon Sports has continued at Chippenham Sports Ground for younger members, aged 7 to 11, but will be moving to the Leisure Centre for the winter months.
Discussion is still taking place about future plans for developing the courts to include several multi use courts and increasing playing area from 4 courts to 6. The ladies team have entered the Winter League competition, due to start in September. Anyone interested in playing tennis in Monmouth can contact Hilary Trenear on 01600 715526.
