Monmouth Comprehensive School's gymnastic team experienced continuing success at this year's Welsh Schools Team Floor and Vault Final with both girls teams taking gold.

The boys under 14 team were narrowly beaten into the bronze medal position by Whitchurch High School in Cardiff, with Brynteg Comprehensive School in Bridgend taking the title.

This is an excellent achievement for the boys, particularly as the two Year 7 students Jonathan Hilton and Coby Nelson were competing in a higher age group along with Year 9 students Charles Greenstreet and James Howe.

The boys scored the highest set of vault marks in the boys competition.

The under 14 girls team have won bronze in 2008, silver in 2009 and finally this year were delighted to beat strong opposition from Maelor Comprehensive School in North Wales to take the Welsh title that has alluded the school in this age group for so long.

The girls performed confident and clean set and voluntary floor routines and strong vaults to take gold.

Congratulations to Molly Clulee, Devon Hayes and Megan Lewis in Year 8 and Jessica Oakley and Lowri Scrivens in Year 9.

Year 7 students Emma Arnett, Charlie Bicknell, Georgina Gray, Jemima Greenstreet, Louise Pardington and Beth Tudball performed in the under 12 age group as a team for the first time.

Again, proficient floor routines and dynamic vaults led to some fantastic scores (most of which were in the nines), leading to them becoming Welsh Schools Champions for 2010.

Beth Tudball scored the highest vault score of the entire competition.

With more than 20 schools and 150 competitors taking part (and all other finalists having won a regional round to be able to compete), these are fantastic results for Monmouth Comprehensive School and congratulations go to all involved.

• Congratulations Year 12 student Holly Belcher, who won the Welsh Schools Novice U19 Trampoline Championships in Cardiff on 27th November.

Holly has now qualified to represent the region in the Zonal round in February.

There were also excellent performances from Year 10 student Morgan Deacy, who came 5th in his group, and Year 8 student Reuben Pierrepoint.
