Street collection thanks SIR, May I, on behalf of the Chairman and Committee of the Army Benevolent Fund Gwent Appeal, thank the people of Monmouth for their support on Friday, June 27. It is very heartening in the present financial climate that people can still show such generosity. The total raised was in excess of £1,000. Very many thanks to all the volunteers who freely gave their time to organise the Day or collect in the street. Hardly ever does a day go by without hearing terrible news from of our young soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The media only report the very worst casualties, but there are many more whose injuries leave then maimed and unable to work and support their families. There are also those whose mental scars will take many years to heal. The ABF not only supports these young soldiers and their families, but also retired and ageing veterans who have very different needs. We work with the Royal British Legion, SSAFA, BLESMA, and Combat Stress to support soldiers of all ages and situations. On October 22 we will be holding a Charity Autumn Fayre in the Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls which will be an opportunity to buy early Christmas gifts and in doing so again support this very worthy charity. Thank you Monmouth. Naomi Wright (Hon Secretary)
