SIR,

It really is time that the folk in Monmouth Town and other towns in the County stopped whingeing about what they have not got or what they want.

Every time I buy the "Beacon" some one is complaining about the traffic speed usually along the Rockfield Road and past your local schools.

We also have a junior school but unlike Rockfield Road our school is not set back from the road but right on the road edge. Your school is relatively new, ours was opened in 1991.

You have pavements and many of youngsters arrive on foot, we do not have any pavements and nearly all arrive by car and school mini bus.

Your road has street lighting along it's length, we do not. Your road is straight, ours is a twisty lane. You have flashing speed warning signs, we have none.

You have a 30 mph speed limit, ours is 60 mph yes 60 mph.

You only have on your road cyclists and motor traffic, we have all that plus hikers, horse riders, sheep, cattle, tractors and on average a car or motor bike through a hedge each month.

Your road is a town road ours the B4521 is advertised in motor bike magazines as a challenging ride!

Of course we have over the years made representations to the police, local councillors and the MCC for a reduced speed limit by voice, letter and petition, all to no avail.

You may remember newspaper headlines from Westminster and WAG stating all schools will have a 20 mph speed limit, another broken government promise.

In addition you have shops and pubs you can walk to, all ours have now gone. You can use a mobile phone, we have to stand at the top of the garden. You have public transport whatever that is.

While we have a "council and government" be it local or national yet to understand that the country is almost bankrupt, but still think that spending our money on political correct and Welsh language dogma is more important than our wellbeing, we must therefore take the decision to be more responsible for our own safety.

It is also worth remembering that these "council and government" officers are employed by us the tax payer yet we have less and less say in how our money is used. So I say again Monmouth, stop whingeing and be thankful for what you have got.
