A RUNAWAY stolen van crashed into a number of parked cars as it was chased through Monmouth by police yesterday (Tuesday 21st September).
The driver was caught by police in Goldwire Lane at around 3.45pm and is thought to have tried to escape on foot before officers finally arrested him.
Eyewitness Lloyd Aplin said the van came up Cinderhill Street from the direction of the A40 and was in the lane to go straight over the lights when it turned right over the Monnow Bridge.
"It went over the bridge, did a U-turn at the roundabout and hit the Volvo on the bridge as it was barging cars out of the way," he said.
The van went up Goldwire Lane, where residents heard screeching brakes and two loud bangs as it ploughed into two more cars at the side of the road before stopping in the middle of the road.
