Osbaston CW School is one of the five schools in the county participating in the inter-schools project to decorate nine inch squares to make up a First World War quilt.

The project is organised and funded by the Young Arts programme of the Monmouthshire Decorative and Fine Art Society (MDFAS) who have provided all the materials as well as sponsored and consulted with specialist artists to help out at the schools.

Year 6 pupils from Osbaston and Usk as well as Year 9 pupils from Caldicot make up the 130 pairs of hands working over 10 morning workshops to produce the quilt.

The pupils are all given an introduction to their themes that include poets, nurses and animals from the period as well as couture poppies, life in the trenches and horses pulling a carriage.

The quilt will be displayed throughout the county and Osbaston School have expressed an interest in parading the quilt on Remembrance Sunday.

If anyone would like to help sew the quilt or if you have space to display the quilt contact Karen Couchman on 01873 856742.
