SIR It's now just a few weeks until Monmouth Carnival takes place and everything is coming together nicely. The Carnival Committee is seeking someone of any age or gender who would like to take part as the 'Spirit of Monmouth'. The chosen person will be treated like a king or queen for the afternoon and get to ride in an open top car as part of the procession. If you think that you may be that person, send the Committee a few sentences stating why you would like to be the 'Spirit of Monmouth' before the 30th June. You can do this on line via the website http://www.monmouthcarnival.co.uk">www.monmouthcarnival.co.uk or by dropping off your letter at Car Care in Monnow Street. The Committee would also like those entering the Carnival to pre-register using the form on the website, as this helps with the organisation on the day. Forms are also available from Car Care. The prizes are, £100 and a cup for a large float, £75 for other vehicles, £50 for a walking group and £25 for an individual walker. There is also the John Blake Shield for the best vintage car. If you can't pre-register, you can still enter on the day. Walkers should congregate in St Mary's Church Yard and vehicles at the school bus pull-in on Dixton Road.
