CHEPSTOW Neighbourhood Policing Team is encouraging drivers and motorcyclists to drive safely and considerately along the B4235 between Chepstow and Usk.

The advice came as they prepared to launch an operation last Easter weekend to target dangerous and inconsiderate driving, as well as unsafe vehicles.

The team received numerous complaints from local residents regarding speeding and inconsiderate driving along the road as well as noise nuisance.

Throughout the spring and summer, the team will be working with officers from the Gwent Police Roads Policing Team, VOSA and GO-Safe. They will be conducting stop checks and examining the safety of the vehicles, noise levels as well as any protective equipment. Speed checks will also be taking place in the area.

Chepstow and Caldicot Neighbourhood policing sergeant, Jamie Jones, said: "We know that the majority of road users, who visit the area particularly during nice weather, are law abiding and considerate drivers and riders. However, there are a minority who will always test their luck and cause great annoyance and worry to local residents regarding the safety of themselves and others.

"Our operation over the spring and summer aims to target those drivers and riders who are acting illegally and irresponsibly."

Monmouthshire south inspector, Lysha Thompson, said: "Monmouthshire is a wonderful place to both live and visit and whilst we are not discouraging visitors and motorcyclists to the area it is important that all road users are safe, responsible and considerate. Enforcement will be taken where necessary but we hope that drivers will act in a responsible manner and prevent the need for this."
