A WINNING anti-drink-drive message performed by young people from Caldicot's Zone Youth Centre, was recognised recently in a certificate presentation.

Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Ian Johnston and leader of Monmouthshire County Council Peter Fox, met the group at Chepstow's Central Kaff Youth Club on Monday (13th January) to watch the winning video and present the team with their certificates of achievement.

The video was entered into Road Safety Wales's anti-drink-drive multimedia competition and won the Monmouthshire heat. The scene, acted by 16-year-old Kiera Davies from Caldicot, shows a young girl struggling to cope with the aftermath of a fatal drink-drive crash.

Kiera is pictured in the video reading a poem written by Andrea Williams, from Monmouthshire Youth Offending Service. The poignant words are written to a lost loved one and are designed to highlight the potential consequences of encouraging drink driving in friends, and making a journey whilst over the limit.

Other members of Caldicot's Zone helped in producing and editing the video.

Meeting the young people, Mr Johnston said: "I recognise the importance of speed awareness in young people, so I'm really pleased to be here to present this award".

The competition run by Road Safety Wales, an organisation linking all of Wales's local authority road safety departments, was designed to challenge schools, colleges and youth groups to devise, perform and record a multimedia presentation with an anti-drink-drive message in time for Christmas.

The video will be used in road safety awareness campaigns around Wales. To view it, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1UE1rqMqpw">www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1UE1rqMqpw
