SIR,

May 1 try to answer the letter from Miss Ellaway

(3/9/08)

When the Trust took over the cinema the sound was

very bad, since then we have continued to upgrade as

far as finances allow. It is very much better, but not, 1

concede, to the high standard we would like.

We are a charity (1102792) and rely solely on

attendance for our income, so we have the chicken

and egg situation. We need money to upgrade the

sound system. But people are not coming in

(according to Miss Ellaway) because of the problem.

However, thanks to the large numbers who turned up

for Mamma Mia and gave so generously to the

collection afterwards, we are now in a position to

resolve the problem, once and for all.

To this end we have a consultant sound engineer here

on Thursday afternoon (11/9/08) and if Ms Ellaway

would care to pop along perhaps she could explain to

him why she finds the sound system so bad that she

feels the need to travel afar to see films.

With regard to the last paragraph in which she refers

to the refurbishment.

We were fortunate to be given, very early on, a grant

by the W.D.A. for the specific task of restoring the

fabric of the building. There are strict conditions with

any funding and therefore it could not be used for the

replacement or renewal of equipment. We have since

tried, for grants specifically to replace the sound

system, but without success.

However, at last we are putting this to rights, and look

forward to Miss Ellaway's patronage in the future.

Vic Bignell

(Trust Director)
