Thirty nine Territorial Army soldiers from the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia), who have recently returned from Iraq, received their Operation TELIC medal from HRH The Duke of Gloucester, at a parade in Monmouth on Saturday.

The soldiers, from the Regiment's squadrons in Cwmbran, Swansea, Birmingham and Jersey, received their call-out papers in July 2007. After a rigorous and realistic training period to get them on par with their regular counterparts in 21 Engineer Regiment (who are based in Osnubruck, Germany), they deployed to Iraq in October 2007.

When in Iraq, the Regiment carried out a wide variety of works in support of the rest of the brigade, but most importantly spent a lot of time enhancing the levels of protection for the troops in Basra.

To celebrate the safe return, the Regiment marched through Monmouth accompanied by the Band of the Light Cavalry before forming up in front of HRH The Duke of Gloucester to receive their medals.
