A CLUTCH of Knievels will descend on Monmouth next week as part of a tour of Wales.
Sixty ’Cymru Knievals’ motorcyclists will be heading off from the Shire Hall on Friday as part of their 1,070 mile perimeter circuit of Wales to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Ride Cymru is the annual perimeter of Wales charity motorcycle event and was first undertaken in 2012 and has so far raised over £48,000 for charity.
The fundraising for the 2019 event has now reached £23,000 - which is £73,000 since 2012!
"In 2015 our event theme adopted the legendary daredevil Evel Knievel, with all entrants becoming Cymru Knievels - and we have remained Cymru Knievels ever since," said event organiser Jason Lewis. "There was an amazing response to the event from the public, and obviously a knock-on effect on the monies we raise for charity," he added.
Monmouth will be one of the five stops as part of their perimeter ride, with Wrexham, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Holyhead the other four.
Several magazines have featured their event and they now have celebrity guests joining them at different stages.
"The biggest boost has been the Knievel family themselves in Montana in the USA, learning about our perimeter of Wales event" said Jason.
"The Daily Post ran a great feature on Evel’s daughter - Alicia Knievel-Vincent who sent us a message of support and a desire to ride around Wales with us.
"In addition this week we have had an email of support from Evel’s eldest son Kelly. We have endorsement from the top!" he added.
They are assembling outside the Shire Hall on Friday 3rd May from 8am for a 9am start and The Punch House are supporting all Knievels with a morning coffee.
The Mayor of Monmouth, Councillor Terry Christopher will see them off on the next leg of their Welsh journey.
Next year, the group have planned a ’2020 RIDE Manx’ - a circuit of the world famous TT road racing circuit with guest TT riders joining them between 1st and 4th May 2020.
