This August two sisters, Emily and Hannah Sage, both previous pupils of Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls (HMSG), will be undertaking a challenging adventure to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the charity Practical Action.
The girls have set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £5000.
Hannah first attempted the challenge on a month-long expedition to Tanzania with a group from HMSG in 2009. Sadly, mild hypothermia put an end to her adventure at 5,500m, just 395m away from the summit. Still determined to reach her goal, Hannah will return in August, this time with her sister. The pair were given this opportunity through their university.
"This time we plan to reach both the summit and our fundraising goal whilst sharing this incredible experience as a team'" said Hannah.
"We've chosen to support Practical Action because their work uses appropriate technology to help challenge poverty, helping people in countries all over the world"
"The key difference with Practical Action is that they are based in the countries in which they help, giving people advice and teaching them new skills rather than having to rely on aid," she said.
Living in Monmouth for most of their lives, the girls count the town as home and are approaching readers to help them reach their fundraising goal. Hannah and Emily are also running a Jubilee inspired raffle in Envee, Monmouth, offering the chance to win a £50 Envee voucher or a bottle of champagne.
