SIR, On Wednesday 28th June, the meeting of Raglan Community Council included discussion of the appeal against the rejection of planning permission for a 46 metre (151 feet) high wind turbine in Pen-y-clawdd. Members of the local community, who all oppose this ill-advised application, attended the meeting to hear the council's thoughts and raise their own concerns. It was heartening to hear the overwhelming support that the council had for the local community's objections. They agreed completely that this scheme was detrimental to the local community, the landscape and wildlife. It does not even appear to have any mitigating green credentials; it would require entirely new, costly and extensive infrastructure, including pylons across the valley, and wind maps suggest it is a far from ideal location. Other members of the community can comment on the appeal before the 9th July by visiting, //http://www.pcs.planningportal.gov.uk/">www.pcs.planningportal.gov.uk/ If you would like more information, please contact [email protected]">[email protected]. Be aware, if this wind turbine were to be built in such a beautiful and officially recognised un-spoilt landscape; it would set a precedent for commercial scale turbines to be built across the region. If this one doesn't seem to affect you directly, one of the subsequent turbines might. Please support us in our opposition to industrialisation of our countryside. (Name and address supplied)
