A CONVENIENCE store has re-opened in Trellech supplying food and newspapers to the community.

Trellech has been without a village store for 10 years following the closure of the shop owned by the Featherstones.

Trellech Stores, has been taken over by couple Joanne and Neil Maltby after years of discussions between the pair about meeting the village's need for a store.

Joanne, who has lived in the area for four years, said: "It's a 10 mile round trip to go to the nearest shop in Monmouth just for a loaf of bread and a pint of milk.

"Opening a shop in Trellech is something I've always wanted to do. We try to stock local produce at the shop including Wye Valley bacon and sausage and Ben's Cakes based in Raglan.

"We're trying to support local businesses as best we can.

"I love this job and the support we've had from the community has been great. The best part is meeting new people."

The store is now open on the site of the old post office situated next to Trellech Church and is open seven days a week with reduced hours on a Sunday.
