INNOVATIVE Shirenewton Primary School pupils have started blogging all about school life and what they have learnt.

Launched at the end of last month, eager pupils have already been detailing their experiences of life in the school with each year group receiving its own blog published on the school website.

Acting headteacher Jill Mitchell said: "The aim is to extend and improve pupils' learning beyond the classroom, while encouraging their independent writing skills.

"The pupils are really embracing the concept and it is a wonderful way of promoting the work of the pupils and the school as a whole.

"Technology is playing an increasingly more important role in the classroom and, through the use of the internet and blogging, it can help stimulate and motivate pupils to find out more and share their learning experiences online."

Cabinet member for education and learning at MCC, Councillor Liz Hacket Pain, said: "Computer and digital technologies are playing an ever increasing role in everyone's lives, so initiatives like this help develop our children's digital skills and prepare them for the future.

"The internet is a wonderful resource for our schools, giving pupils access to a phenomenal amount of information to complement their learning in the classroom.

"The use of blogging within schools is a positive step and it will no doubt improve and encouraging pupils' extended writing."
