SIR,
Many have already objected to the cancellation of the shared space trial at the top of Monnow Street and are also very angry that those who orchestrated the abandonment were certainly unrepresentative of the town and probably also ill-informed about the trial objectives.
If there is a problem with the trials it is that the area covered by it may be too limited in scope to allow an objective assessment to be made.
If the whole of Agincourt Square could be included and Monnow Street down to Nailors Lane, then it would be possible to have proper signage and to measure the impact more easily.
The central issue is about reducing the speed of all traffic through the square and top of Monnow Street to walking pace and literally having people share the road with vehicles.
The extra cost of enlarging the trial area would be minimal.
