June Swallow, who has run the Ross Weather Centre for 23 years, has won the town's Community Award of the Year. Making the award at the recent mayor- making ceremony, last year's mayor, Derek Bedford, said, "She deserves the award for going out in all weathers for 23 years." June and her husband Rex are stepping down from their meteorological duties, and Jill and Martin Roes-Francken are taking on the responsibility for recording Ross's weather every day of the year. June is only the second person to win the Community Award; it was begun by councillor Phil Cutter when he was mayor, and the first recipient was Alan Wood, who runs local web site wyenot.com. June and Rex were presented with a crystal bowl engraved with the Ross coat of arms.
