September rainfall recorded at Cornwall House was 61.7mm, slightly below the average for the month of 66.1mm.
Despite the return to near average rainfall the drought continues. Rainfall from February to August this year was 182.2mm. The only year for which this period was drier was 1929, the first year that rainfall was recorded at Cornwall House, when there was only 180.8mm of rain.
1929 continued very dry, rainfall from February to September was only 189.7mm. 2025 with 238.9mm of rain in this period was still the second driest year on record for February to September rainfall.
The 1976 drought ended with very heavy rainfall at the end of August followed by a very wet September. The 1976 drought was so severe because it followed a very dry winter, whereas the winter of 2024/5 was very wet.
