SIR,

Another weekend, another broken window, not mine this time, and senseless damage to cars.

It's good for people to let their hair down, have a few drinks and giggle all the way home, I can remember doing that on many occasion, but why the violence and damage? What's the point?

Scaring middle aged women surely doesn't appear impressive to anyone, but I get scared. Having your home violated, which is what it feels like when your peace is shattered by broken glass appearing in your living room, puts you on edge whenever you hear a boisterous crowd outside

It would cost me £200 to replace the reversing mirror that someone twisted off my van, so of course I won't be able to.

Uprooting plants and smashing bottles, leaving glass all over the pavement for children and dogs to tread on, just adds to the gloom.

This kind of thing grinds a community down if we put up with it. So let's not just shrug, batten down the hatches and live in fear. Let's make people aware that their actions have consequences, even if they are unintended.

Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please, not at the expense of others.

Janet Gunn
