PLANTERS and trees were vandalised on the old Monnow Bridge in Monmouth sometime between 9pm Monday evening, 20th August and 8am Tuesday morning.

One of the two Rowan trees donated by Councillor Sue White was broken off and the town council’s planter was also targeted.

One of the Cannan lilies had its leaves ripped out and some of the french marigolds were pulled out and thrown to the ground.

Chair of the environment committee, Councillor Terry Christopher described the act as “senseless”.

“I’m totally frustrated by such behaviour” he told the Beacon.

“I cannot understand the mentality of people who do such damage. We as a town council try our best to spend taxpayers’ money the best way we can to make the town an attractive place for residents and visitors alike.

“When we have to repair or reinstate damage that is caused by such mindless individuals, it means our budgets cannot always be spent on promoting the town and making it attractive for everyone’s benefit.”

The town clerk has contacted the contractors who will reinstate the plants.
