It's show season, have you been to any of the wonderful village shows in Monmouthshire? There is still time, Llandogo Village Show is on Sunday 24th August at 2pm in Llandogo Village Hall.

The show is organised and run by Llandogo Village Produce Association and had been running since 1984 in the current format, although they have a trophy that was first awarded in 1959. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes with these village shows, and it’s great to see everyone volunteering and of course it wouldn’t be a competition without the Judges. These Shows wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the time and effort that all the exhibitors put in, growing, watering, baking, preserving, painting, sewing, and arranging wonderful flowers. It is interesting to find out why they do it, some is pride, some is competitive and about beating the neighbour, some it’s the trophy on the mantlepiece, some just want to know how good they are and how can they improve which means the judges’ comments are valued.

Last year they had near record entries and are excited to see what people grow, create and bake this year. Working with Llandogo School, there will be an exhibition of artwork from the three classes, plus the School Council have chosen the classes in the Show that any child can enter, from Lego models to an edible necklace.

It is an enjoyable afternoon, with a produce stall, raffle, children's tombola and wonderful cakes to enjoy with a drink. There are lots of prizes to be won, with trophies to be presented at 4pm.

If you have never entered and had that buzz of Show morning, why not visit a show this year and prepare for next year.
