The Haberdashers’ Schools of Monmouth are in shock this week following the unexpected death of a Year 10 pupil.

14-year-old Henry Trick-Eagles collapsed in school on Friday, May 20, and was rushed to the Grange Hospital in Llanfrechfa but despite the best efforts of the doctors, sadly died that night.

Mr Simon Dorman, Headmaster at Monmouth School for Boys, said: “With deep sadness, I can confirm the terrible news that a Year 10 pupil, Henry Trick-Eagles, died in hospital late on Friday evening.

“Henry collapsed at school on Friday afternoon. He received first aid and an ambulance took him to The Grange University Hospital, where, tragically, he died.

“Understandably, this is devastating news for Henry’s family” Mr Dorman added.

“This is a huge shock for the whole school community, and I know that we will all support each other as we come to terms with this awful news.

“Henry was a lively, gregarious and kind young man.

“At times like this, it is the strength of the whole school community that helps us all to pull through and keep going.”

In 2018, Henry won the Junior Monmouth’s Got Talent competition with his card trick routine and appeared on stage as the opening act at the senior MGT competition.
