SIR, I was outraged to read that Monmouth Town Council dared to oppose the new comprehensive school plans. As a parent of three children of various ages, two currently at the school, we have been looking forward to our promised new school for years. The teachers and all staff work very hard and are dedicated to our young children - the next generation. Surely, they deserve a new school. The build was supposed to start in January 2015. The huge fuss about the pool is marginalising our young people's future. The school plans seem fantastic to everyone directly involved in the school and the pool plans will be welcomed with open arms by most in the community. It seems to me that the town council is pontificating, enjoying the power it likes to think it has, and messing up our children's future. I would like to know how many of the councillors who voted 'no' actually have children in state education in the area? I can bet the answer is zero. I do hope the planners will ignore their ridiculous demands and proceed with the current plans which are wonderful and build a school which Monmouth, and the children who attend Monmouth Comprehensive, are proud of.
