A Monmouthshire primary school will have its kitchen closed after the Easter holiday.

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) has confirmed it will not be renovating the kitchen in Raglan VC Primary School as it would not be cost effective.

Instead, the children's meals will be transported to Raglan from Deri View Primary in Abergavenny.

The kitchen will be completely closed and therefore will no longer be used to store utensils or for cleaning purposes.

A number of schools in the county already use this method of obtaining school dinners, so MCC has no worries about the health and safety aspect.

Parents are being assured there will be no compromise on the quality and nutritional standard of the food.

MCC said it would not be closing the kitchen if there would be any risk to the children.

Mrs Deakin, the school's cook, who will lose her job due to the closure, said she was very proud that she had managed to get the number of children having school dinners up over the past few years.

Raglan VC Primary School headteacher Jeremy Piper thought it unfair to make a comment as the school's kitchen is operated outside of his control.
