The Savoy Youth Theatre Academy has finally found a permanent place to call home - Singleton Court, Wonastow Road - having led a nomadic existence for the last few years,.
The Youth Theatre have held its first sessions at the new venue: "It was so exciting to move into our own home," said Sam Densham, Savoy Youth Theatre Academy Director/tutor, "and it proves that the Savoy Youth Theatre is really here to stay."
Although the Youth Theatre are sad to say goodbye to the Shire Hall, the show, as they say, must go on. The Youth Theatre's next production in May half term (Sat 23rd-Sun 31st) is The Fairy Tale Marmalade Trail, where everyone is invited to come along and experience a whole different type of theatre. The audience will be able to get directly involved by walking around the promenade-style production, get their hands on the props, interact with the characters, and eat (allegedly) poisoned apples. They'll watch out for Snow White's evil step mother - what could you see if you look in her mirror? - and find the food to feed the troll to save the Billy Goats Gruff.
"We're really looking forward to the performances," said Sam, "and we cordially invite the people of Monmouth to join us to enjoy a theatrical experience with a difference."
The Youth Theatre is also proud to announce that some of its older members have secured places to study theatre, and in one case film, at some prestigious institutions in September 2015.
Maria Morgan has a place at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Izzy Ribbeck at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Thom Shaw Penman at the University of Wales Trinity St David, and Greg Densham has secured a place studying film at the University of South Wales. Plus, Youth Theatre alumnus, Tom Salmon, will be entering his third year at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in September.
