Twelve cadets of 1002 (Ross-on-Wye) Squadron, Air Training Corp successfully passed the Young Lifesavers Plus 1st Aid Certificate. They are the first cadets in the squadron to achieve this award since the Air Training Corps made it a compulsory subject earlier this year. All cadets now need to have passed this before being able to gain the classification of Leading cadet. For some it will also help them with the service section of their Duke of Edinburgh award which they all are participating in. Mrs Sharon Stones, a Civilian Instructor at the Squadron, and Sgt Christopher Stones, both of whom are 1st Aid at work trained ran the sessions at the squadron over a number of weeks. At the end of the course the cadets had to take written and practical tests, which were invigilated by independent assessors. Mrs Stones would like to thank Ross Ambulance service and in particular Mr Moore who, during the course, arranged a visit to the station and a very interesting talk. The Squadron is keen to promote First Aid and there are currently 11 members of staff and cadets who hold the 1st Aid at Work certification. Any cadet reaching the age of 16 is encouraged to attend one of these courses, which are run by the Air Training Corps, as this is a qualification also recognised by employers. If you are interested in being a Air Training Corps cadet or a member of staff at 1002 (Ross-on-Wye) Sqn ATC then give Flt Lt Carol Marsh a call on 01989 563773.
