THE bishops of the Church in Wales will meet in Sacred Synod next month to confirm the election of the new bishop of the Diocese of Monmouth.
The Sacred Synod is made up of the remaining five Welsh diocesan bishops and is an open meeting that will take the place of evening prayer. During the meeting, they will check that the election of the bishop was carried out properly and that no objections to the election have been made. The Archbishop of Wales, Dr. Barry Morgan, will then confirm the appointment.
The Venerable Richard Pain, Archdeacon of Monmouth, pictured right, was elected Bishop of Monmouth in July. His election will be confirmed at the Sacred Synod which will be held at the college chapel, University of Wales Trinity Saint David at Lampeter on Wednesday 11th September.
The Bishop of Monmouth will be consecrated by the Archbishop at Llandaff Cathedral on the 21st September and installed at Newport Cathedral on the 18th October
