AN ANNUAL running race has raised £2,500 for a children’s charity.
The Kymin Dash 2019, which was held in April raised £2,500, for Ty Hafan with help from Barclays match funding.
Ty Hafan is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities offering care to children and support for their families, throughout Wales with the charity being chosen this year by a local resident who lives close to the race start and supports the race every each year.
Last week a cheque was presented to Helen Morgan from the charity at Barclays in Monmouth by Barclays employees Emma King and Sue Clarke with the amount donated being one of the largest donations made to date. Thanks were expressed to Blair Lundie who is a charity ambassador and attended on race day to represent the charity.
The event was resurrected by Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club in 2013 and has so far donated £13,750 to different charities with assistance from Barclays and the race organisers are hoping to exceed £20,000 by the race’s 10 year anniversary in 2022.
All 350 places sold out in advance of race day for the first time this year with runners of all abilities taking part. Perfect weather on the day made the event itself a very enjoyable day with excellent feedback from everyone involved especially the runners. The date for 2020 has already been confirmed as Sunday 29th March.
The seven mile route saw participants climb the Kymin Road to the Round House then head to Highmeadow Woods following the descent down to the River Wye and then the river back to Monmouth School Sports Club, in a course featuring beautiful scenery with the added bonus of running in both Wales and England.
Emma King race director would like to thank her fellow club members who sit on the race committee for the dash and her employer Barclays Bank for matching £1,000 of the amount raised on the day also for their on-going support since 2013 and colleague Sue Clarke for her involvement.
A spokesperson said: "The race committee would like to thank their new sponsor Monmouthshire Conservatory Company for the t-shirts this year which every runner received for taking part, Walford Timber who provided the race numbers for the event, the on-going support from Wild Trail for the post-race snacks for everyone and Dunn’s Engineering.
"Thank you to Monmouth School Sports Club for allowing us to use their venue as race head-quarters, we are now looking forward to 2020."
The next event organised by Spirit Of Monmouth will be the Trellech Beacon Dash taking place on Sunday 3rd November and entries are now open.
