A CHEPSTOW runner is to take on a 30-race challenge to fight sex trafficking.
Chepstow Harriers Running Club’s Jen ‘Danger’ Harding turned 30 this year and has chosen to mark the landmark birthday with 30 challenging races to help fight sex trafficking.
After volunteering, supporting, campaigning, donating, and trying to make a difference to end sex trafficking for almost a decade, she is currently researching sex trafficking in partnership with Cardiff University and intends to continue her work in the field. The charity she is raising money for is A21, who fight trafficking and forced prostitution globally, through prevention, protection, prosecution, and partnership.
In 2015, the UK’s human trafficking centre received 134 referrals in Wales through the National Referral Mechanism. Since experts estimate only one to two per cent of victims of trafficking are ever identified, the scale of trafficking in Wales is likely to be far greater.
Jen has already completed some tough races as part of her challenge, including the Mayhill Massacre, Newport Half Marathon, Cardiff World Half Marathon, Kymin Dash, Sugarloaf fell race, Pentyrch Hill race, and Offa’s Orror and Stroud Trails Half Marathon. On Friday 27th May she flew to Greece to take part in a half marathon over the mountains, crossing the border from Bulgaria to Greece, along a common trafficking route.
Jen’s next challenge will be the gruelling Man v Horse race, which recently featured in the BBC Two programme Natural Born Winners with participants Gareth Thomas, Iwan Thomas, James Toseland, and Donovan Bailey. The 22-mile, hilly, off-road course takes in the beautiful countryside around Llanwrtyd Wells and pits horse riders against runners.
