Boys at the Grange and Monmouth School were visited by former England rugby coach and world cup-winning captain Martin Johnson.

The ex-Leicester forward took part in a question and answer session with youngsters at prep school the Grange before taking to the field to help coach the school's first team squad, under 11s and under 14 players.

"The standard of rugby here is really good," said Johnson.

"The type of training the boys are doing is exactly the same as the senior players – they just need to do it as often as possible.

"You also have to enjoy it – that's what its all about."

Headmaster Dr Steven Connors was delighted to see Johnson on the Monmouth School sports ground.

"It is amazing to have one of the greatest players of his generation – maybe of all time as a second row forward – at the school," he said.

"Rugby players don't get more iconic, and he's very natural with the boys.

"It is easy for them to get used to [former Wales international and Monmouth School teacher] John Bevan, who himself is one of the greatest players of all time."
