FOUR hens and a cockerel have been rescued from a garage roof in Caldicot, Monmouthshire.

RSPCA officers were called to Park Road last week after the birds were spotted on top of a garage roof - around eight foot high.

RSPCA animal welfare officer (AWO) Sian Burton and animal collection officer (ACO) Stephanie Davidson attended the call on Thursday (26 November).

“We’re not quite sure why they were there,” said ACO Davidson. “Using a ladder AWO Burton climbed up towards them and managed to get close enough to catch them and bring them safely down.

“We suspect they may have been abandoned, but they could also have easily escaped from somewhere and gone on a little adventure.

“If anyone has any information about them they should contact the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”

The hens and cockerel were uninjured and have been taken into the RSPCA’s care.

Anyone who spots an animal in distress can call the RSPCA’s 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999.
