IN a result she could never have dreamed of, Maureen Teague from Raglan won first place in the Women’s Institute (WI) floor arts competition at the 2017 Royal Welsh Show.

Mrs Teague’s entry, ‘Space’ impressed the judges who described it as ‘like floating in space’ with the flowers arranged to represent planets circling a sun.

The result came as a shock to Mrs Teague who was just excited to be able to attend the event.

“I was totally shocked, I never expected to win, I never thought I would exhibit in the hall let alone win.

“It was a great achievement to just be able to put an entry in so winning was a bit of a bonus.”

Mrs Teague used a combination of spray carnations, roses, sea holly, gypsophila (gyp), air plant and cacti held together with wire from a hanging basket.

Mrs Teague was representing Gwent after she earned her spot at the Royal Welsh Show by winning the Gwent Federation of Women’s Institutes competition in May.
