Monmouth Comprehensive School rowers train regularly with the goal of enjoyment and being the best they can be.

Last weekend, 41 athletes from the Boat Club headed to the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal for some demanding competition against some of the best crews in the West of England and Wales.

The event hosted some 350 entries including 21 entries from the school.

In unseasonably pleasant and sunny weather, the athletes excelled themselves. The crews included athletes from Year 9 in their first-ever race for the school to seasoned Sixth Form athletes.

The club won six gold medals, one silver and five bronze medals. In total, 22 of the athletes won gold medals in the six events in a variety of boat types from quadruple sculling boats to single sculling boats, with many more winning silver and bronze medals.
