TWO members of the Ross Junior Rowing Academy, Louise and Katie Hudd, won a hotly fought Women's Junior 15 double sculls race on Saturday May 17th. Katie said, "It was my 14th birthday, and I wanted to do something to remember it by. Winning this race with my sister really made my day." The Bristol Avon Regatta at Saltford, near Bristol, is an event whose roots go back to 1850, but it was not part of Ross RC's race schedule. But because the Hudds live in south Gloucestershire just a few miles from the race course, they asked club captain Ian Howell if they could represent the club. Louise said, "This was the first time we have raced for Ross without the whole squad being there, and it did feel strange, even a little intimidating, with strong support for the opposition. Junior captain Robin Fletcher had sent us a very inspiring e-mail, which we thought about as we rowed up to the start – it really helped us a lot. We cannot thank Ross Rowing Club enough for the support it has shown to us since we joined. We would recommend anyone who has never rowed to give it a try, and there is no better club to row for than Ross RC." The Club's next squad events are Monmouth Regatta on May 24th and 25th, and Hereford Regatta on Monday May 26th. Over the three days, the Ross club will be competing in over 40 different events: a record for the club, and illustrative of the depth and quality of its rowing.
