Monmouth Rotary Club is looking for a young local person from the Monmouth area to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Award course (RYLA) at the Dean Field Studies Centre in the Forest of Dean. The award is open to young people between the ages of 16-18yrs who are free to attend from July 29 to August 3rd. Each Rotary Club in the neighbouring counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Avon, Wiltshire and Worcestershire pays all costs to send one award winner from each Rotary club on the award winning Leadership Course, run by the Grass Routes Leadership training team. The 50 or so award winners then spend a week doing outdoor activities and indoor based group training, to develop confidence and leadership skills. Everyone at the end of last year's course was very reluctant for the course to end and many strong friendships were formed. One young award winner described the course "as the best week of my life". The RYLA course is one of the many Rotary sponsored community activities directed at supporting the young in the local community, Youth Speaks, Young Chef, Young Musician, Young Innovator, Young Designer etc. Selection of the most deserving local successful candidate will be by a short interview held in Monmouth Town during the next few weeks. Application forms and very detailed information regarding the training week are to be found on http://www.rotary1100.org"">www.rotary1100.org" http://www.rotary1100.org">www.rotary1100.org. If you would like an informal chat to learn more about the Rotary funded award please call Rotarian Sue Jenkins on 01594 531445 or Rotarian Mike Matthews on 01495 371403.
